Things You Should Know About High Blood Pressure

I had heard of high blood pressure all my life, as it ran in my family. My doctor had warned me many years ago that I had it but it was not high enough all the time at that point to get him to put me on a drug for it. I tried to change my diet, as per his instructions, but figured this was heredity and I couldn’t do anything about it.

Looking back on it, going to my doctor for that was my first mistake, as my doctor has no nutritional training and did not know how to get rid of it, he just knew how to manage it. Needless to say dietary changes did not work out too well.

Over the years, it became more of a burden than anything else and I just stopped watching my blood pressure closely. I used acupressure tapping to keep it at bay to some degree and I also worked on my fibromyalgia and put that in remission with my acupressure tapping (EFT). However, I soon started experiencing dizziness and was diagnosed with vertigo. Nothing was ever said about that being tied together with the blood pressure, because doctors don’t treat the whole person, they just manage the symptoms you are having at that moment and no one thought to check the coincidence of both being present.

Flash forward a few years, and I started having vertigo symptoms daily and feeling confused because of the dizziness. I did not know it was high blood pressure and was just treating the vertigo. Then one day, I woke up in the early morning hours and tried to get to the bathroom. My vertigo was out of control and I was shaky and very dizzy. When my sister called later that morning, I realized I could not really even talk to her and form the words to speak; I then went to the ER and found out that I was having a stroke. My BP was through the roof and now so were my blood sugars.

Through the hospitalization they put me on drugs to lower the BP and get my sugars under control, but the side-effects of the drugs still made me feel dizzy. I lost the use of my left side and had to relearn how to talk and walk, as well as use my left hand again. However, through the course of the next few months I found a naturopath, Dr. Glidden, whose YouTube videos showed me that nutritionally speaking, my high blood pressure was a sign of a calcium and magnesium deficiency. I also learned that vertigo is osteoporosis of the skull and they were both related and is also a calcium deficiency. I also learned that through chromium and vanadium supplementation I could bring my sugars back into control as well (Another article will explain this one).

So, I got the Youngevity products he suggested and I am now free of both the high BP and the high blood sugars. I’m off all the meds from the hospital. So, now my mission is to help others do the same thing I did. I have tried other products that stated they helped with high blood pressure and had even been on some minerals and calcium products to try to get the same results and all have failed. They were just not in a form that the body could uptake. Minerals have to be very small in order for the body to be able to grab it and get it into your blood stream. So, I finally found the nutrition I needed to allow my body to heal itself. Now, I needed to heal the emotional component. Once the body is nitrified, any other alternative healing modality you use then impacts the body so much stronger. I consulted Karol K Truman’s book, Feelings Buried Alive Never Die, and found out that the emotional component to high blood pressure is: Feels a strong need to be in control of everything, allowing people or situations to bother you, letting your emotions and reactions rule you, and not minding your own business/interfering with others. I muscle tested the emotions and found that that I was reacting to all of them!

Muscle testing is a way of asking the body a yes or no question and getting a yes or no answer. Most people can do this by standing barefoot on the floor and setting the parameters for your body by leaning forward as far as possible with straight knees and saying ‘this is yes, affirmative’. Then lean backwards as far as possible and saying ‘this is no, negative.’ Then allow your body to just stand straight up in a neutral position and ask the question. Your body will either pull forward or lean back. It can be very subtle on some people so really pay attention.

Ask about each emotion listed and then note each response. When you get a yes on something, then note that and do the following: tap on your third eye point, the spot right in the middle of the forehead where a cyclops eye would be, with two fingers and then state the following while concentrating on the tapping, “Even though I feel… (say the statement you triggered on), I choose to release this and allow my body and my blood pressure to be calm and peaceful. ” You can state other peaceful things you want to happen to your body as well.

Once you are done with the tapping, take a minute to listen to your body and see if any memories come to mind. Then tap in that same area and state the memory and approximate age when you remember it happened and then ask your body to release it.

After you are finished you should feel so free and relaxed… ready to take on the day with the new minerals and new brighter outlook on life!

Avocados are notably high in calories but are also highly regarded for their high content of monounsaturated fats and potassium thus making it one of the most beneficial foods for combating high blood pressure.

Blood pressure is the measure of the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries. The heart pumps blood into the arteries, which is the transportation highway responsible for distributing blood throughout the body. Having untreated high blood pressure makes the heart work harder and contributes to hardening of the arteries (atherosclerosis). This in turn can lead to stroke, kidney disease, and to the development of heart disease. “Having high blood pressure puts you at risk of heart disease and stroke, which are leading causes of death in the United States. About 75 million American adults (32%) have high blood pressure-that’s 1 in every 3 adults. About 1 in 3 American adults has prehypertension” 1 A diet low in salt and high in vegetables, fruits and low-fat dairy products can help lower blood pressure. Highly valued for its blood pressure combating properties within the fruit family is the Avocado (aka. alligator pear) a fruit of the avocado tree native to the Western hemisphere.

Avocados are reputed to be high in fats, but since they are a plant food, the fat they contain is therefore considered an oil and not a solid fat. However it’s important to note that the majority of fat (77%) in the fruit is oleic acid, a monounsaturated fatty acid. There is conclusive scientific evidence which points to the fact that diets rich in monounsaturated fats are great for improving your cholesterol and reducing inflammation thereby reducing the risks of heart problems and strokes. Along with monounsaturated fats avocados are extremely rich in potassium (more so than bananas – Half a medium avocado contains 549 mg potassium, one medium banana provides 451 mg.). A diet rich in potassium helps regulate your heart beat, eases tension in your blood vessel walls, keeps muscles and nerves functioning efficiently, and lowers blood pressure by balancing out the effects of sodium on your system. The more potassium you eat, the more sodium is lost through urination. A high potassium diet can reduce systolic blood pressure 4.4 mm Hg and diastolic pressure 2.5 mm Hg.

To those who are averse to eating the avocado fruit the oil derived from it is a reliable alternative. A study done on lab animals and published by “Journal of Ethnopharmacology.” concluded that “a diet rich in avocado oils, altered levels of essential fatty acids in kidneys, resulting in changes in the way the kidneys respond to hormones that regulate blood pressure.” A tablespoon of avocado oil contains approximately 124 calories and 14 grams of fat (21 percent of the recommended daily fat intake), 9.9 of the 14 grams are monounsaturated healthy fat which lowers LDL ((Low Density Lipoprotein) ) cholesterol, while increasing HDL (High Density Lipoprotein) and 1.9 grams are polyunsaturated fat which lowers LDL and HDL. Avocados contain no cholesterol or trans-fat and are richer in vitamin E than any other fruit. The fats of the avocado are also resistant to heat-induced oxidation thus offering an excellent substitute for vegetable, canola oils and similar saturated or trans-fat products.

While extolling the health benefits of the avocado it is important to keep in mind that the fruit is high in calories (a cup of avocado slices contain approximately 234 calories) so the quantity being consumed must be taken into consideration. Also due to its high potassium content, persons with kidney related problems need to be extra careful in its use. What is Hypertension?

Hypertension, also known as, High Blood Pressure (HBP), is a serious medical condition. It happens when the force of the blood pumping through your arteries is too strong. When your heart beats, it pushes blood through your arteries to the rest of your body. When the blood pushes harder against the walls of your arteries, your blood pressure goes up. Your blood pressure may be different at different times of the day. It is usually higher when you first wake up, after you exercise, or when you are under stress.

Having higher blood pressure for short amounts of time is normal. However, when your blood pressure stays high for most of the time, it can cause serious health problems. You can monitor your blood pressure by using a monitor at home and by consulting your doctor. Normal resting reading in an adult is approximately 120/80 mm HG.

HBP can be life threatening if left uncontrolled or undetected. It can lead to Heart Failure, Stroke, Heart Attack, Kidney disease or failure, Vision loss, Sexual dysfunction, Angina or Peripheral artery disease. These conditions are very serious and must be treated. Knowing the signs and symptoms can help determine when to contact your doctor.

  • Headache on the back of your head that is very discomforting.

How do you treat hypertension?

Also, carrying too much weight around your waistline can increase your risk for hypertension. Check with your doctor to see what your healthy waist measurement should be.
  • Exercising regularly- Regular exercise for at least 30 minutes each day can help lower your blood pressure or help prevent you from getting hypertension if you are pre-hypertensive. Walking, jogging, swimming, cycling and strength training are some of the best exercises in lowering blood pressure. Talk to your doctor to start up an exercise plan.
  • Eat Healthy- Eating foods rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products can help lower your blood pressure. Cut back on caffeine.
  • Reduce salt intake- the smallest amount of reduction of your salt intake can lower your blood pressure by 2-8 mm Hg. Some people are more sensitive to salt and should lower their intake even more. This includes African Americans, ages over 51, and anyone diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes or chronic kidney disease.
  • Limit alcohol intake and quit smoking. Quitting smoking helps your blood pressure return to normal.
  • Reduce Stress- Chronic stress can be a contributor to HBP. Occasional stress can also be a risk if you often turn to unhealthy food choices, alcohol and even smoking.
  • Regular appointments with your doctor can help monitor and treat HBP. You may be prescribed medication if the other options do not lower your blood pressure to a healthy level.

How To Get Rid Wrinkles

The reality is nobody likes getting older. As we age our skin loses its flexibility and becomes stiffer, which translates into wrinkles.

Obviously, there are a multitude of variables that determine the extent to which our skin wrinkles – foremost among those variables being our genes. there’s not much we can do about our genes. Some of us simply age more gracefully.

Regardless of how we age, we all prefer to look younger, which generally makes us feel better about ourselves, as well.

I, for example, have been fortunate enough to look younger than I am. Which I hope was because of my appearance and not my behavior. As a younger person, this often hindered me. Now that I am older my youthful appearance is working in my favor, as I don’t look my age at all.

Clearly, some individuals age more gracefully than others. For everyone else, there is quality anti-aging skin care.

Obviously, you need vitamin D, so normal exposure to sun light is acceptable. But, you should really try to keep exposure to short doses. And, you could always take vitamin D as a supplement, if you felt you were not getting enough sun exposure – especially during the winter months.

Personally, I try to adhere to a protocol of reduced sun exposure. But, I recognize that my daily activities will likely expose me to the sun. I try to mitigate that by following the suggestions mentioned above. For example, if I know I’m going to be doing a bit of driving, I apply sunscreen to my arms, face and neck.

When reviewing anti-aging skin care products, do your due diligence. Simply buying the most expensive, highly marketed product is not always the best course of action. If fact, some of the more expensive products manufactured by well know companies, are some of the worst products available for your skin.

From a logical standpoint, you should ask yourself: If the manufacturer is spending so much on marketing, how much are they spending on research and development? Also, how much are the paying the celebrity to endorse the product, and how does that endorsement affect the price?

When considering skin care products of any kind, look carefully at the ingredient. If you see ingredients such as parabens, allergens and fragrance – keep looking! remember skin absorbs 60% of what touches it.

How To Increase Your Collagen

Collagen is a type of protein, and works with keratin to provide the skin with strength, smoothness, elasticity and resilience. It is produced by the skin and other parts of the body. When you are young, you have an abundance of collagen in your body, which is why young children have such lovely shiny hair and smooth skin. It is referred to, as the cement which holds everything together. As you age collagen production declines and weakening of the skin occurs, this is when skin wrinkles, and becomes saggy.

The skin is made up of three layers, epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. The second layer of the skin (dermis) is where the protein collagen is found. Collagen molecules are bundled together throughout the dermis.

There are ways to help you increase the collagen in your skin, so you have to know what nutrients your body really needs to do this.

Soy products such as soymik and cheese contain an element known as genistein. The presence of genistein gives soy products collagen production qualities, as well as helping to block enzymes that tend to break down and age the skin. Just about any soy product contains enough genistein to be helpful, including soy products that have been developed as substitutes for meat products. I personally cannot eat edamame or any soy product unless it is fermented, like Miso. Two, week-long periods were an issue, after eating tofu every day for two weeks. Other plant foods that have been shown to contain genistein include alfalfa and clover sprouts, barley meal, broccoli, cauliflower, and sunflower, caraway, and clover seeds. Barley, and cauliflower and sunflower are all blood type specific for Blood Type A.

Dark green vegetables are also excellent examples of food containing collagen producing agents. Add dark green leafy vegetables such as spinach, collards, and kale. Cabbage (which is great for Blood Type B) and mustard greens and turnip greens are all blood type specific, try to put some in your diet every day. They are packed with an antioxidant called, lutein. You need 10 mg to get results – which equates to about 4oz. of spinach or 2oz. of kale. Recent French research suggests this will boost skin hydration and elasticity, fighting wrinkles. Rich in Vitamin C, regular consumption of kale, spinach,collards, and asparagus help to strengthen the body’s ability to manufacture collagen and to utilize the protein effectively.

Red fruits and vegetables also are excellent sources to up the collagen content of foods in the diet. Try adding red peppers,and beets- great for Blood Type B, and fresh or stewed tomatoes- great for Blood Type O,. For others, watermelon is a great source of lycopene. Also include sweet potatoes, (good for everyone except Blood Type A) carrots and more. Research from Dr. Ronald Watson at the University of Arizona has found that the antioxidants in red, yellow and orange foods build up under the skin creating extra UV protection. “The effect is so strong that eating six portions a day for about two months will build a natural barrier equivalent to a factor four sunscreen”.

Vitamin C rich fruits and vegetables are natural sources of collagen production. You should try to include citrus fruits like grapefruit, lemons, pineapple and strawberries into your daily diet.

One of the biggest causes of skin ageing is attack by substances called free radicals, that break down healthy skin tissues. Antioxidants helps neutralize these free radicals before they can do any damage.Prunes are the fruit containing the absolute highest level of antioxidants. Blueberries are a close second. Eat five to six prunes, or a small basket of blueberries, daily to get a great health boost. Prunes also help if you have osteopenia, for preventing long bone fracture.

Omega Acids also help to create an ideal environment for collagen production. Fish such as salmon and tuna are excellent sources of omega fatty acids. Nuts such as, pecans, almonds for every body and Brazil nuts for Blood Type B and AB contain healthy amounts as well.

Flaxseed, chia seeds, and walnuts (plus cold water fish) are a major sources of the healthy fat omega-3. Skin cells are surrounded by a fatty layer made from this and other fats so, the higher your omega-3 intake the stronger that layer is, and the plumper your skin cells are – which helps disguise lines and wrinkles. Mix it into smoothies or add it to balsamic vinegar and use it as a salad dressing, but try to have a tablespoon each day. On Facebook posts, one guy says flaxseeds are estrogenic. If you are concerned about breast and uterine cancers, staying away from estrogenic compounds is a good idea. Chia seeds are great.

Foods that are rich in sulphur content are also important to collagen production. Among these are green and black olives, (limit or avoid these) fresh cucumbers, and fresh stalks of celery. Working in conjunction with the sulphur, vegetables that are rich in Vitamin A, also aid in keeping collagen levels high. Try adding raw carrots, fresh cantaloupe and baked sweet potatoes (for all except Blood Type A) to the diet for an extra boost.

Turkey contains a vital skin-friendly protein called carnosine that slows down a process in the skin called cross-linking.
